Home Affairs Deputy Director-General Thulani Mavuso says services have improved

Home Affairs Deputy Director-General, Thulani Mavuso acknowledged the challenges facing his department but said the service has improved in recent years. Mavuso said, “there are multiple factors that are at play, one of the issues is the network connectivity.

“Also, remember that there are also isolated incidents that affect specific offices. For example, the office that we are in, is connected through a copper line. So the branch has the challenge sometimes of copper theft but also we have other offices that are connected through fibre, microwave, and other LTE routers so that is just one of the issues when talking about isolated office incidents.

“Then coming to national outages… last week we had an outage of power in Centurion that affected a whole area during load-shedding. The generator came on and then apparently lost fuel and thereafter, there were discs that were affected in our system. Mavuso said some issues take longer for the network to be restored.

He said the system has improved, “I must say that we have been improving the service… in a year we issue about three million smart ID cards and one million passports. So if you look at those statistics it will tell you that the work is happening even though there are glitches in some of the areas.
