Four men were arrested after they were allegedly found in a hijacked truck with R10-million worth of copper in Bronkhorstspruit.
The incident took place on Sunday morning on the R568 road.
“The police received a complaint from 10111 radio control requesting assistance for a hijacked trailer being pulled by a white truck driving on the R568 road in the direction of Bronkhorstspruit,” said police spokesperson Constable Munyadziwa Ramovha.
“It [the truck] was followed by a security guard.”
Ramovha said police joined in and managed to stop the truck and inside, R10-million worth of copper was recovered.
It is believed the truck was hijacked in Musina, Limpopo.
“The group claimed that they were hired to pull the trailer from Musina to Johannesburg,” Ramovha said.
Ramovha also warned motorists to beware of spikes on the N4 and R25 roads as well the hijackings at the Masada N4 off-ramp.
She urged anyone who might have information on spikes on the road to call the Bronkhorstspruit police station on 013-932-9222 or 013-932-9246, Crime Stop: 08600-10111, and Crime line: SMS 32211.
