Hartbeespoort tourism takes a COVID-19 knock

Hartbeespoort is normally buzzing during Easter, but the lockdown has dealt a major blow to the tourist town. Some restaurants in the area are not open but are trying to spread what little resources they have around.

Carlos Vilela, a business owner in the area, said his restaurant asks for donations of produce and food supplies that are prepared with their facilities and then distributed to the community.

Vilela said, “we are totally dependent on the community”.

Musician Dozi — owner of Dozi’s Back To The Roots — said his fellow musicians are devastated.

Today there would have been between 1,000 and 2,000 people here. Now with the lockdown extended, musicians are devastated. People are gonna struggle.
