Gwede Mantashe denies being an obstacle to IPPs

Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe says he’s not an obstacle to Independent Power Producers.

Mantashe denies holding up the future IPP developments but says despite the noise around IPPs, they are the most expensive form of electricity generation.

Parliament is meeting on Friday and Mantashe says gas is the future of electricity generation but an energy mix must take centre stage.

He said, “if you shout at me about window five, I know that you are being opportunistic and you don’t know what you’re talking about. I listened to the leader of the DA even calling for me to be fired because I don’t sign window five. I knew that DA has chosen to be lobbyists of renewables rather than thinking energy security.”
