Google is shutting down its Android Auto for Phone Screens app

Google is shutting down the Android Auto for Phone Screens app. As per a report by 9to5Google, it will be replaced with the Google Assistant Driving Mode. In case you are not aware, Android Auto for Phone Screens feature was rolled out in 2019 to offer in-car experience for people who didn’t have cars compatible with the Android Auto service.

Android Auto service enables one to connect to their smartphones by offering a custom Google UI onto a vehicle’s infotainment screen. However, not all cars come with built-in support for it. Android Auto for Phone Screens app was launched after Google had to delay its Google Assistant Driving mode. The app allows one to use Android Auto on their phone screen with a phone running Android 10. It enables users to make calls, navigate, text and play music. It offers real-time navigation and traffic alerts to the users.

Google Assistant Driving mode will come built-in with Android 12 operating system. In a statement to 9to5Google, the tech giant said that “Google Assistant driving mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For the people who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience isn’t going away. For those who use the on phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will be transitioned to Google Assistant driving mode
