Gauteng housing department addressing backlog

Gauteng’s housing department says its making progress in addressing the backlog in the province but it still faces several challenges.

The department announced early this month that it had resuscitated its urban renewal plan. This is for areas including Alexandra, Winterveld, Bekkersdal and Kliptown.

Human Settlements MEC, Lebogang Maile said now that the process has been restarted, it should be planned better.

“The most important thing is we’re not just going to be building houses without a plan,” Maile said.

Suspended Daily Maverick journalist, Ranjeni Munusamy, has again been implicated at the State Capture Inquiry. Former crime intelligence officer Dhanajaya Naidoo says he met her on at least three occasions to repair her car in 2008 Colonel Naidoo’s been testifying in-camera at the inquiry to protect his identity.
