Firefighters working hard to keep Golden Gate National Park wildfire under control. Fire management organisation Working on Fire in Clarens, Free State, is currently working with South African National Parks to extinguish a wildfire at Golden Gate Highlands National Park.

The fire started last night and a team from Working on Fire alongside SANParks is working to extinguish it. A representative of volunteer group Clarens Fire Association confirmed the fire started last night.

“The Working on Fire team is currently there, about 23 people, they are working together with the park,” he said.

“It’s just veld at this stage, I haven’t yet been to the site but we are not overly worried yet,” he added.

This is a developing story.
