THE family wants the man suspected of killing their daughter to stay in jail until the trial begins. A man was arrested on Wednesday following the gruesome discovery of the body of Nothando Madlala (22) from Gamalakhe in Port Shepstone, KZN, in a shallow grave at a dump site last Friday.
He’s expected to appear in court soon. Nothando was allegedly raped and killed before being buried. Her mkhulu Sibusiso Madlala (50) told Daily Sun Nothando went to visit a friend in Masinenge.
He said she arrived there but when she disappeared for three days her friend became worried and informed Nothando’s mum. The young woman was reported missing.
On Friday, police dogs found the body in the shallow grave. This man cut Nothando’s life short. He should spend a long time in jail,” he said.
Police spokeswoman Captain Nqobile Gwala said Margate police searched in Masinenge in Uvongo with the Port Shepstone K9 unit, which found the body. Charges of murder and rape were opened at Margate Police Station,” she said.
“An investigation was conducted and it led to the arrest of the suspect who was last seen with the victim. He was arrested at his place of employment in Uvongo.” Gwala said the suspect appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrates Court yesterday. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 4 October.
