The family of a Vosloorus mother and son who were killed and dumped at the Zesfontein plots near Putfontein on the East Rand is disappointed that the alleged killers were granted bail.
Murder accused Moses Ngonyama and Praisegod Buthelezi were granted R1,000 bail each last Tuesday by the Daveyton magistrate’s court. The court further ruled out evidence by the state, saying it was only circumstantial.
Ntlonelo Cewuka, the other son of the murdered woman, told Sowetan that he was disappointed in the justice system.
“I was in court and I lost all faith when I saw the two walk free after a woman was brutally killed together with her son,” said Cewuka.
Noqayisa Tshwane left home with her son Jefferson Johnson to fetch the truck she had given to Ngonyama to fix in June but they never returned.
Detective Ngoako Magwaza, the investigating officer, said he was disappointed in the court’s decision.
“All facts were presented and the suspect [Ngonyama] was the last person to be seen with the two. So, we as police believed that he was strongly connected to the double murder,” said Magwaza.
Cewuka said it has been very hard accepting that his mother and brother are never coming back. He said the truck had minor problems when it was taken to Ngonyama.
“All of a sudden, the truck does not have the engine and gearbox.
“It is our hope that cellphone records will confirm that Ngonyama called my mother to fetch the truck because he turned and said he had called them to discuss extra parts that needed to be bought.”
The matter was postponed to October 7 in the Benoni regional court for a trial date.
