Eskom’s Johann Bester resumes testimony at #StateCaptureInquiry

The judicial commission of inquiry into state capture will continue on Monday, with testimony from two more Eskom officials.

The power utility’s Gert Opperman will resume his testimony, while Johann Bester is also expected to take the stand.

Opperman, coal supply unit manager at Eskom, on Friday told the Zondo Commission that coal supply agreements between the power utility and Optimum coal mine were treated with extreme leniency after Tegeta acquired it from Glencore.
Bester is Eskom’s fuel supply general manager.

The power utility’s Gert Opperman on Monday told the commission that in 2015, he twice received phone calls from former acting CEO Matshela Koko instructing him to accept that sub-standard coal be forwarded to Majuba power station.

Standard Bank’s former head of compliance, Ian Sinton, is also expected to take the stand.
