Emfuleni municipal workers finally get paid

Imagine a Christmas without a cent in your bank account.

That would have been the reality for workers at the Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng.

But Eskom has confirmed that it’s instructed the sheriff of the court to release around R65-million to pay workers’ salaries.

The utility attached the municipality’s bank account after it failed to pay over R5.7-billion in outstanding electricity bills.

Eskom has urged municipalities to pay up any outstanding debt to avoid workers and residents from being caught in the crossfire.
