KwaZulu-Natal: At 12H55 Monday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to an emergency call at the Umhlanga Main Beach, Durban.
Reports indicate that an adult male swimming in the shore break had been dumped by a wave, slamming face first into the sea sand. Ethekwini Lifeguards who had been meters away at the time, rapidly pulled the dazed man from the water.
The man was provide with first-aid and spinal immobilization by the Lifeguards. On arrival of paramedics the patient was found to have sustained moderate injuries.
He was treated on scene by an Emergency Care Practitioner and once stabilised was transported by ambulance to hospital for further care.
