Shebeshxt Faces New Charges Linked to Crash That Killed His Daughter

Limpopo musician Shebeshxt is facing more legal trouble after two new charges were added to his case in the Polokwane Regional Court.

The popular Lekompo artist, whose real name is Katlego Lehlogonolo Chauke, appeared in court on Friday, 10 July. He is already facing a long list of criminal charges.

However, the case has now become even more serious after the state amended the charge sheet. The new charges are culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.

Although the state did not publicly explain the full details in court, Shebeshxt’s lawyer indicated that the new charges are linked to the 2024 crash that claimed the life of the musician’s young daughter, Onthatile.

That detail has made the case even more emotional for fans who have followed his journey.

Court Case Takes New Turn

The court appearance was meant to deal with pre-trial issues. Instead, the matter took another turn when the state confirmed that the charge sheet had been changed.

State prosecutor Advocate Mohlaloga Sehlako told the court that a culpable homicide count had been added. He also said the charge included two alternative counts.

In addition, reckless and negligent driving was added as another charge. As a result, the defence asked for more time.

Shebeshxt’s lawyer, Advocate Calli Mathabatha, said the defence had only received the amended charge sheet and supporting documents late on Thursday, 9 July.

Because of that, he argued that they needed time to consult the musician and take proper instructions. The pre-trial conference was then postponed.

Link to 2024 Crash

The new charges have drawn attention because of their reported link to the 2024 car crash that killed Shebeshxt’s daughter. That crash was one of the most painful moments in the musician’s public life.

At the time, fans flooded social media with messages of sympathy as he mourned the loss of his child. Now, the tragedy appears to have returned in a legal form.

Culpable homicide usually relates to a death caused through negligence. However, Shebeshxt has not been convicted of the new charges.

The matter still has to be tested in court. For now, the charges remain allegations.

Still, the emotional weight of the case cannot be ignored. It involves a father, a lost child and a musician already facing heavy legal pressure.

Shebe Appears Calm in Court

According to the report, Shebeshxt appeared calm during the proceedings. The courtroom was packed with family members and fans.

That support shows how strongly people still follow him, despite his legal problems. After court, he briefly greeted his long-time partner, Kholo Chuene.

It was a small moment, but it showed the human side of a case that has become public, painful and complicated.

For fans, seeing Shebeshxt in court again is difficult.

Many know him as the energetic performer behind viral songs and wild stage moments. However, his life has also been marked by controversy, grief and repeated court appearances.

Defence Challenges State’s Move

Advocate Mathabatha did not only ask for time to consult. He also criticised how the state was handling the case.

He accused the National Prosecuting Authority of improperly consolidating several criminal matters against his client.

According to the defence, the Director of Public Prosecutions should not treat that power as unlimited. That argument could become important as the case continues.

If the defence challenges the way the cases were combined, the court may have to deal with more legal arguments before the trial can move forward.

Therefore, this matter may not be resolved quickly.

It now involves old charges, new charges, bail issues and questions around how the prosecution has structured the case.

A Long Legal Battle

Shebeshxt has remained behind bars after his latest bail attempt failed. His legal team previously approached the Polokwane High Court in an attempt to challenge the bail refusal.

However, that appeal was delayed after his lawyers asked for more time to prepare. The musician is already facing several charges in the broader matter.

They include attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Now, the new culpable homicide and reckless driving charges have added another layer to an already serious legal battle.

Fans React With Mixed Emotions

Shebeshxt has always had a complicated relationship with the public. Some fans see him as a talented artist who rose from Limpopo’s streets and took Lekompo music to a national audience.

Others worry that his legal troubles have overshadowed his music. This latest development will only deepen that debate.

For supporters, the case is painful because it touches on his daughter’s death. For critics, the new charges raise more questions about responsibility and accountability.

Either way, the musician remains one of South Africa’s most talked-about entertainers. His court case now carries the attention of fans, legal watchers and the entertainment industry.

What Happens Next

The matter has been postponed to give the defence time to study the amended charge sheet and consult with Shebeshxt.

That means the next court appearance will be important.

It may reveal how the musician intends to respond to the new charges. It may also show whether the defence will formally challenge the consolidation of the cases.

For now, Shebeshxt remains at the centre of a serious legal storm. His music career made him famous. His personal tragedy made fans feel for him.

Now, his court battle has taken another painful turn. The case is far from over, and South Africans will be watching closely as it continues.
