Video of Cassper Nyovest performing at DJ Sumbody’s funeral has Mzansi talking – Watch

Slain Amapiano pioneer DJ Sumbody — real name Oupa John Sefoka — was laid to rest on Saturday 26 November in his home province of Limpopo at Ga-Masemola, Apel Fourways Cross.

The 38-year-old Ayepyep Lifestyle co-owner was gunned down along with one of his bodyguards in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg while on his way to a gig on Sunday morning, 20 November.

Although it was a heartbreaking send off, mourners also celebrated the businessman’s life in song as his friends Cassper Nyovest, Vetties and Thebe performed their hit song Monate Mpolaye.

“A lover of people and bringing premium experiences in the hood, his Veuve Clicquot All White parties were a testament of his passion of bringing culture, lifestyle, good music and showcasing amazing talent,” read parts of the statement released by DJ Sumbody’s family last week.

True to form, in a video shared by Daily Sun on Saturday, the three musicians are seen dressed in black suits as they perform for their late friend whose white coffin was in front of them.

The song Monate Mpolaye was released in 2018 and the lyrics talk about groove or the party lifestyle “killing” you.

Some tweeps expressed that they found the lyrics “ironic” and “inappropriate” considering the fact that DJ Sumbody was murdered on his way to a gig on Sunday last week.

Others were unhappy with the idea of performing a party song at a funeral as trolls dragged Cassper for it.

Clapping back, the rapper wrote: “The family asked US to perform the song as a tribute at the memorial and the funeral. I agreed out of respect for the family but yeah ‘Cassper Makes everything about him.’ Leave me the f**k alone man!!! I’m human!!!”
