DA wants all COVID-19 health contracts made public

The Democratic Alliance has weighed in on the growing scandal around the Gauteng PPE tender involving some high-ranking government officials.

The opposition now wants health Minister Zweli Mkhize to make public all COVID-19 health contracts in the province.
We are of the view that this is only the tip of the iceberg. We know that at least R2-billion worth of PPE contracts were awarded in Gauteng alone.

“Our view is that across the country, in all nine provinces, every company that was awarded a contract during this time for anything related to COVID-19 needs to be made public,” said DA shadow minister of health, Siviwe Gwarube.

On Monday, presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko announced that she was temporarily stepping down from her post after allegations that her husband was reportedly awarded two tenders amounting to R125-million for the supply of personal protective equipment.
