COVID-19: Nurses at the Dr George Mukhari Academic fear for their health at Pretoria hospital

Nurses at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, north of Pretoria, say their workplace which is meant to protect them is being negligent.

Healthcare workers at the hospital say they are afraid of being infected with COVID-19 and fear for those close to them. This after one of their colleagues died and 15 others tested positive.

The nurses say even though they have had to bury their co-worker, her death has brought no change. Only a sign separates a contaminated area from a non-contaminated one.

The nurses say since January they have had to work under these dangerous conditions without being fully paid their salaries and that even though they’re in direct contact with COVID-19-positive patients, nurses are not tested.
