Reconsideration of COVID-19 grant payments underway

Around 750,000 payments of the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant have so far been made.

That’s according to Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi.

He says Sassa is aiming to reach a million beneficiaries by next week.

After almost a year of waiting, people who were rejected for the R350 grant and were later successful may get their money from this week.

“We have targeted that by September we don’t deal with any backlogs. But we’re running parallel processes,” Letsatsi said.

“We are making sure that the payment processes are processed as well. By September we don’t want any person complaining.

“We don’t want a situation where the system is blocked, and we want to clean up the system.”
