COVID-19: EFF not supporting the decision to ease of lockdown restrictions

The EFF is condemning the decision to ease lockdown regulations as senseless and reckless. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the country will move from Level 4 to Level 3 from the 1 June. In a statement, the party said it rejects the ending of the lockdown. Government’s decision to uplift the lockdown regulations happens on no sound scientific and epidemiological basis. This is despite their repeated commitment that science will be the only basis to guide decisions for reopening the economy.

Tonight’s decision must, therefore, be categorically rejected as reckless and senseless only befitting the white capitalist establishment at the expense of black people’s lives,” read the statement. The opposition party says the President’s address was him resigning from the fight against COVID-19.

President Cyril Ramaphosa

“Today, Ramaphosa told the nation “it is now in your hands”. This is because from here on, the government does not have a plan that will deal with COVID-19.”
Under Level 3, restaurants and bars are some of the businesses that will remain closed.

Domestic air travel will only be allowed in certain instances. The economy has been allowed to operate on a limited basis, with essential services being expanded in gradual stages. While the nationwide lockdown has been effective, it cannot be sustained indefinitely,” Ramaphosa said. Experts say the peak of infection can be lowered if South Africans stick to social distancing and hand sanitising. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday
