Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Tuesday 19 May that South Africa has now reported 17 200 cases of COVID-19, with 767 new cases in the last 24-hours since Monday’s update.
He also said that 26 more people have died of the virus, bringing the total to 312.
A total of 488 609 tests have been completed, with 13 538 in the past 24-hours, and 7 960 people have recovered from the virus in full.
PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN:
The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Tuesday 19 May:
- Gauteng – 2 361 cases;
- Western Cape – 10 639 cases;
- KwaZulu-Natal – 1 616 cases;
- Free State – 168 cases;
- Eastern Cape – 2 135 cases;
- Limpopo – 94 cases;
- Mpumalanga – 78 cases;
- North West – 72 cases;
- Northern Cape – 37 cases; and
- Unknown – 0 cases.
