Couple which reportedly killed a four-year-old girl detained in South Africa

A Zimbabwean couple that reportedly killed a four-year-old girl before fleeing the country was smoked out of South Africa early this week. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest saying the couple was awaiting extradition to Zimbabwe to face a murder charge.

“Processes are being taken to bring the suspects from South Africa,” Nyathi said.

The pair reportedly killed minor Princess Shoko from Zvimba, stashed the body in a 25kg mealie-meal bag and fled to South Africa.

Before the gruesome act it is alleged that Princess and her sibling Susan Shoko (6) were verbally and physically abused by their mother’s sister Lister Sibanda and her husband John Zvivi, who had custody of them while their mother was in South Africa.

A few days before Princess’ body was found, the abusive aunt called the deceased’s mother telling her that the children were suffering spiritual attacks, hence they had to take them to their rural home in Masvingo to seek help. Later, the sister told her that Princess had died and had been buried in Masvingo.

The mother was told by a tenant that Princess had not been seen in the area for some time.

The mother later discovered that her sister was lying and reported her to the police, leading to investigations and the discovery of Princess’ body stashed in an empty mealie-meal bag.

The deceased’s sister (name withheld) is currently admitted to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where she is being treated for severe injuries to her waist and back.
