Woman in court for allegedly killing her cop sister in KZN

A 42-year-old woman, Bongeka Somani, appeared at the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Friday for the murder of her sister, Sergeant Nokuthula Somani (55).

Sergeant Somani was stationed at Umzimkhulu police station and was off duty when she was killed.

KwaZulu-Natal Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said it is alleged that Sergeant Somani was sitting in the lounge at her Umzimkhulu home when two suspects entered the house and shot her multiple times. She died at the scene.

Mhlongo said the two suspects fled the scene on foot.

Bongeka will be remanded in custody until July 22 with her accomplice, Siyabulela Mbhele (24), for bail application.
