IPL: Chris Gayle makes history again

Chris Gayle becomes the fastest batsman to score 4,000 runs. The Caribbean southpaw also holds the record for the highest individual score in the IPL. His incredible 175 not out off 66 balls against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in 2013 surpassed former Kolkata Knight Riders opener Brendon McCullum, who hit 158 off 73 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Kings XI Punjab batsman Chris Gayle on Monday became the fastest batsman to score 4,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), reaching the landmark with a single against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. He is also only the second overseas player after David Warner (4,099) to reach the landmark.

Gayle has 4,000 runs from 113 matches at a strike rate of 150.50.

Gayle had struck 13 fours and 17 sixes en route to the fastest ever Twenty20 century off only 30 balls – 154 out of his 175 runs came in boundaries.

While Gayle is the second overseas batsman to get to the landmark, he will join seven Indians in the elite list. Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are in the 4,000 runs club already.
