Our client, Vititec (Pty) Ltd, is the wine industry’s leader in the multiplication and improvement of vineyard plant material. An excellent career opportunity currently exists for a motivated individual to join the company as its Chief Executive Officer.
The CEO’s primary responsibility will be the management of the company’s daily activities, in line with the strategic plan. The core functions include: • Research in respect of plant improvement and multiplication • The development and implementation of the business strategy • Preparation and management of budgets • Negotiation of contracts • Planning multiplication sources • Coordination of grafting programmes • Identification of business opportunities • Participation in boards and industry forums • Financial management • Liaison with researchers/research institutions and development/innovation bodies • Technology transfer (clonal wine) • Thought leadership/opinion forming• Relationship management/marketing • Staff management.
Required Skills:
general management: 8 to 9 years
Plant Improvement: 8 to 9 years
Plant Nursery: 8 to 9 years
Candidate Requirements
We would like to hear from candidates who hold a BSc degree – a major in Viticulture and relevant postgraduate qualification will strengthen the application – plus at least eight years’ experience in plant improvement and/or nursery and/or general management. Further requirements include:
• Scientific knowledge, such as the layout of trials and knowledge of viral diseases • A good understanding of plant improvement • Strategic thinking and results-driven • Good planning skills and knowledge of project management • Good knowledge of finances and cost accounting • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work alongside a dynamic leadership team • Good computer skills in Excel and Pastel, strong negotiation skills, and conflict-handling and logistical skills.
