Woman killed in Free State car crash

A 48-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old man injured in a collision between two vehicles on the R59 in Sasolburg in the Free State on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at about 6 am in the suburb of Vaalpark‚ close to Taaibosspruit.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they found one vehicle in the field and one in the road‚ said ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen.

“Upon further assessment‚ paramedics found a woman lying outside of her vehicle in the field. It is believed that bystanders pulled her from the vehicle. She‚, unfortunately, ‚ sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

“The man was still seated in his vehicle on the road. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for further medical care‚” Van Huyssteen said.
