
Western Cape hospitals are under severe pressure as the number of COVID-19 patients increases. Over 100 of them are in intensive care units in the province. The health department said 65 percent of the country’s confirmed coronavirus cases are in the province.
The head of the Western Cape health department Dr Keith Cloete says more medical staff are contracting the virus, hampering treatment. Cloete also said says ramped-up testing has led to a backlog, but more test kits are being redirected to the Western Cape.
