Cape Town cemeteries running out of space


The increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Western Cape is putting pressure on cemeteries across Cape Town, particularly for Muslim burials.

The local community has been outraged this week, over extra charges levied for late burials in one of its private cemeteries.

The City of Cape Town says it’s trying to create extra burial space, particularly for Muslim graves.

It can currently only accommodate 150 Muslim burials a month.
