Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fate now in hands of President

The National Assembly has voted to suspend Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane out of office.

A total of 318 MPs voted in favour of the removal, 43 against, with one abstention.

The last step in her removal is for President Cyril Ramaphosa to seal her fate with his signature.

The Section 194 Inquiry committee recommended in its final report that she be removed from office after she was found guilty of misconduct and Incompetence.

Those against made their voices heard.

The UDM’s Bantu Holomisa handed a sealed envelope to the Speaker of the National Assembly who will have to seek legal advice as to what to do with it.

The EFF says this was nothing more than a witchhunt against Mkhwebane.

But the DA’s Natasha Mazonne says Parliament did the right thing in terms of the Constitution.

Mkhwebane and the political parties supporting her have reserved their right to take the decision on review.

But they will have to prove to the court that the process was unfair, unlawful, and irrational.

Mkhwebane’s term of office was due to expire next month and the jury is still out as to whether she will still get her golden handshake of about R10-million as part of her package.
