Former Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo bags TV gig

Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo is the latest sportscaster to The Morning Show (TMS), which is simulcast on e.tv and eNCA.

According to Sunday World, the former goalkeeper joins a star-studded cast of Faith Mangope, Nelisiwe Mmape, Kgosi Rankumise, Bolele Polisa and Obakeng “OB Knows” Ngobeni as presenters.n In recent years the show has been winning and captivating its audiences with entertainment galore, in-depth conversations and politics, capped with informative and educational content.

Since the news dropped, congratulatory messages have flooded his social media platforms. In 2021 Mhlongo was forced into retirement after an injury while playing for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM). Since his injury, he has pursued another career journey.

He was struck by a ball on his face, leaving him partially blind. After several consultations with eye specialists, he was advised to retire. The Soweto-born shot-stopper started his footballing career with the now-defunct FC AK before signing for Orlando Pirates.

However, after his stint at Pirates, he switched to Chippa United before signing for Bidvest Wits, which later saw its status being bought by TTM, who later changed to Marumo Gallants. After his contract termination following his career-ending injury, he has been heavily involved in various programmes, including working with Lucky Lekgwathi Foundation.

Upon his retirement, he had several caps from Orlando Pirates, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and a call-up for Bafana Bafana for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia.
