The Pretoria High Court has heard evidence pointing to how one of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial made daily phone calls to his girlfriend while in police custody.
The court is hearing testimony from a forensic specialist from Vodacom on Bongani Ntanzi’s cellphone evidence.
Ntanzi is one of five men accused of murdering the Bafana Bafana captain almost a decade ago.
Police claim Ntanzi was found in his prison cell at the Valeria Police Station with a cellphone, which was confiscated and taken for analysis.
Ntanzi denies this, saying his phone was taken by police upon his arrest on 16 June 2020.
But the State has now led evidence showing the phone number attributed to Ntanzi made daily phone calls to a number linked to his girlfriend, Olebogeng.
Vodacom’s forensic supervisor, Pinky Vythilingham, who confirmed this, is expected to continue with her testimony on Friday morning.
At the same time, the first accused, Muzi Sibiya, will have to produce a doctor’s certificate on Friday morning after asking that proceedings be cut short as he was feeling unwell.
