Long queues as post office begins to service grant beneficiaries

The South African Post Office (Sapo) says although their first weekend of paying social grants has been challenging.

It expects its system to be ready and fully operational by the beginning of next month.

At Soweto’s Jabulani Mall there were technical glitches and dozens of very upset beneficiaries.

Long queues are the order of the day as the Post Office officially begins offering services for social grant beneficiaries to receive their money.

The Post Office says it’s learning some valuable lessons.

Sapo CEO Mike Barnes said: “We are learning and we will invest in better services. There is a lesson for us all. You don’t have to withdraw your cash today. There is Pick ‘n Pay and others. People must remember that the post office is not a truck. You can come any time. You can come back tomorrow and any other day, that’s what the change is going to be
