The Business Development Pursuit Strategist is responsible for leading the team in developing and implementing marketing and pursuit strategies aimed to produce specific results, and seeks to make the critical difference through the following key areas of focus;
1. Provide pursuit management support to EY’s large accounts.
2. Embed pursuit excellence in the business by building relationships across the region and sharing best practice from learning events and through the global and local business development (BD) and pursuits network.
3. Drive initiatives to support continuous innovation in pursuits to ensure EY process and deliverables stand out from our competitors.
Essential Functions of the Job:
This individual will be responsible for the following four key areas:
1. Strategic pursuit and opportunity management
Follows the firm’s global best practice tools and processes to manage the pursuit campaign and actively contributes to all kick-off strategy, status, follow-up/debrief, and oral/site visit preparation meetings throughout (sometimes In conjunction with the Business Development Executive (BDE)).
Makes certain that all steps of the pursuit proposal process are adhered to where relevant, and establishes a course of action for efficient and effective completion of team projects.
Co-leads discussions around pursuit strategy and serves as second chair to Pursuit Leader or BD Pursuit Strategy team members as needed.
Responsible for the timely delivery of deliverables through control of workflow.
Helping teams to win work through coaching, best practices and experience.
2. Strategic pursuit communications
In conjunction with the Pursuits Leader or BDE, and with input from the EY Account teams, drives development of the value proposition that underpins the entire pursuit strategy. Ensures the value proposition is embraced by all members of the client serving team and reflected consistently throughout client communications across the globe.
Consults with Business Development and sub-area leadership to develop and implement pursuit materials that are designed to achieve specific results. Creates original content.
Makes certain that all proposals, qualification documents, presentations and other meeting documents are of the highest quality.
Assists the Pursuits Leader with the pursuits team operations, including developing and maintaining pursuits materials, developing the pursuits team strategy and communicating the pursuit team’s value-add to the firm, and upholding the pursuits team’s brand image.
3. Client relationships
Builds relationships with industry, practice, and line of service leaders. Identifies opportunities to build strategic alliances with partners, BDEs, senior managers, practices and other areas to help achieve business goals.
Presents and shares knowledge gained from attendance at learning events and other means of remaining current with developments and trends.
Works with other Business Development Pursuit Strategists and national professionals to identify and leverage best practices.
4. Administration
Drives strategic initiatives to support pursuit best practice, such as win/loss reviews, offshoring, self-service and training.
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:
Champions firm global best practice tools and process to manage the pursuit campaign.
Frequently works independently on proposals.
Is required to challenge the Account team and colleagues in the correct manner when necessary.
Acts as project manager for medium/large pursuits or oversees significant portions of major or highly complex pursuits
Supervision Responsibilities:
Receives general direction rather than supervision.
Is competent to work independently within area of pursuits and communications.
Review of work generally occurs at longer intervals.
Assigns work to Business Development Pursuit Strategy Coordinator.
May provide coaching to others.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Excellent English writing and communication skills and demonstrated project management experience (essential).
Well-organized with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously (essential).
Ability to work from own initiative with limited supervision (essential).
Strong influencing skills and ability to coach others (considered an asset).
Business development / marketing communications experience at manager-level in a blue chip environment (considered an asset).
Other Requirements:
Flexibility to work outside regular working hours.
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, preferably in a related field such as English, Business Management, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Communications.
Experience:
For Associate Director rank: 10-12 years of experience
For Assistant Director rank: 7-10 years of experience
Approximately 7-10 years of relevant experience in business development, marketing or project management, including some communications or proposal writing experience. Apply Now
