Bavelile Hlongwa

Condolences continue to pour in for the family of Deputy Mineral Resources Minister Bavelile Hlongwa.

Hlongwa was killed in a car accident on the N1 highway near Hammanskraal on Friday evening.

It’s reported the deputy minister stopped to assist after an initial crash.

A truck apparently crashed into them killing Hlongwa and four others.

The 38-year-old was born in Malangeni, Umzinto in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Hlongwa was appointed as Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy in May this year.

She previously served as Executive Deputy Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency.

Hlongwa studied at UKZN’s Howard College in Durban – where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.

She will be honoured with an Official Funeral Category 2 in line with the government’s State, Official and Provincial Funeral Policy.

The national flag will fly at half-mast at every flag station in the country until she is laid to rest.
