Basetsana Kumalo was beaming with pride during the recent launch of her memoir, Bassie: My Journey Of Hope. Not only was the former Miss South Africa excited to share her life’s story with her fans but she had a few special supporters in the audience.
Bassie’s three children, Nkosinathi Gabriel, uShaka Kgositsile Emmanuel and Bontle ba Morena Jasmine, made a special appearance. The beauty queen turned businesswoman has previously not allowed her children’s faces to be photographed.
She usually blocks out their faces when sharing images of them on social media.
But Bassie proudly showed off her brood at the launch. She also posted a few pictures of her two sons and daughter on Instagram. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock – the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flock. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you. – Deuteronomy 28:4,”
Her daughter’s picture also had a special caption. The joy of the Lord is my strength. – Nehemiah 8:10,” Bassie wrote. Basetsana has tried to keep her children out of the public eye to protect them from the negative effects of being in the spotlight.
Speaking to the Sowetan ahead of the release of her book, Bassie revealed that her children are one of the reasons she wanted to write her memoir. I wanted my children to know my story in my own voice. I wanted them to know who mommy was, what inspired mommy, what mommy believed in, what made mommy sad, why did mommy have so much faith, why was mommy not afraid to fail and when she failed, how did mommy pick herself up. And when mommy was attacked in the media, how did mommy deal with that,” she said.
