Duties and Responsibilities:
User Education
Trains students on how to use library databases continuously to enable them to research and access information required
Contributes to bi-annual and walk in presentations as joint presenter for Student Information Literacy sessions
Librarian Support
Drives The Independent Institute of Education library policies and procedures and ensures adherence to policies
Supports the Librarian in training the Library Student Assistants
Library Administration
Assists students and lecturers with research
Provides guidance to students on academic writing
Monitor the performance of all functions of library automated library systems
Updates new books on the Sirsi Dynix to ensure accurate record keeping
Highlights the relevant journal articles, newspapers received
Co-ordinates day to day book loans of students and lecturers
Facilitates inter-library loans to enable availability of resources to support students and lecturer
Library Resources Marketing
Designs posters and library packs to market library resources on the campus
Arranges monthly displays according to the calendar set out by the National Librarian and the Student Relations Manager
Promotes library resources
Markets teaching and learning resources to lecturer
Presents information about teaching and learning resources and information sessions
Required Skills
communication : 1 to 2 years
time management : 1 to 2 years
Candidate Requirements
Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
Must have professional registration with LIASA
Minimum 1-year experience as an assistant librarian in a small to medium sized facility within an education environment
Interpersonal and communications skills
Problem solving skills
Best suited to a friendly, organised person who works accurately and is able to handle pressure
Time management skills
Digital literacy skills
