Artists set to take the SAFTAs stage by storm

Artists set to take the SAFTAs stage by storm. With nominees in 92 categories picked by over 200 industry experts from various provinces, it’s hard to keep track.

The South African Film and Television Awards celebrate what’s best on our screens every year.

The actual award show – to be broadcast live on Saturday at 7 pm on SABC2 – isn’t just about handing out trophies. In between acceptance speeches and montages, it typically features performances from all genres and generations of music. The live music acts add to the show and aim to help make the ceremony super entertaining.

The 2019 SAFTAs were just announced by the NFVF and they’re sure to bring the audience to their feet, along with any fans at home. Here are a few names to look forward to…

Bongo Maffin

Bongo Maffin

The iconic group is bringing their comeback to our screens. The legendary kwaito group recently reunited with their new single “Harare” and are set to release a new album together. For those who may not know, the group has stellar members who have gone on to have their own illustrious careers – Jah Seed, Speedy, Thandiswa Mazwai and Stoan. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for their first televised performance together in almost a decade!

Sho Madjozi

ShoMadjozi

The trailblazing rapper has had her sights on the international stage lately with her spending more time overseas than usual. But the Limpopo native never forgets her fans back at home. Sho Madjozi is known for her high energy performances and colourful costumes on stage. With that combination, I’m sure fans can’t help but expect an incredible performance. Wonder if she’ll live up to all your expectations.

Prince Kaybee

Prince Kaybee

Sure to have the crowd dancing from the first beat is the hitmaker himself, Prince Kaybee. The DJ is a fan favourite for his consistent supply of club bangers heard across the country every day. It’s hard for a DJ to put on a captivating performance on a big stage so we wonder what he has up his sleeve.

Boity

Boity Thulo

With only 2 songs to date, Boity is wasting no time in getting her rap career going. The presenter turned rapper is no stranger to the SAFTAs having presented awards at prior ceremonies but this will be her first time as a performer.

Boity has been booked and busy performing her new songs nationwide on small stages. This is her first chance to truly prove herself as a rapper and solid live performer so the pressure is on and we can’t wait to see how she steps up to the plate.

Tickets are still available via Computicket for R300 if you can’t see yourself missing your chance to see this in person. You can also tune in to SABC 2 at 7 pm for the live broadcast.
