President Ramaphosa to host Angela Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will arrive in South Africa for a three-day official visit on Wednesday. President Cyril Ramaphosa will host her at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Thursday.

South Africa is Germany’s biggest trading partner in Africa.

Total trade reached R235-billion, over 12 months ending November 2019.

South African exports exceeded 100 billion for the first time, narrowing the trade deficit.

Merkel’s visit is aimed at further cementing relations between the two countries.

The leaders will also discuss cooperation in the United Nations Security Council where South Africa currently serves as a Non-Permanent Member.
