Heartbreaking last moments: ANC member takes a selfie of himself while dying of Covid-19

Earlier last month, Mzwandile Jwara went to the funeral of an ANC comrade who died of Covid-19.

And on Monday, 11 January, he took his last breath in hospital.

Soon after returning home from the funeral, Mzwandile started getting sick. He was admitted to hospital on 11 January and even took a selfie from what would become his death bed.

Following the death of their comrade, ANC leaders in Kagiso, Mogale City, have warned people who still attend funerals without following Covid-19 regulations to stop.

Family spokesman and local councillor Maxwell Khuzwayo said the ANC’s Abbisai Nkoe branch was deeply saddened by Mzwandile’s death.

Mzwandile was deputy secretary of the branch and was working for the Mogale City Municipality at the time of his death.

Maxwell said while he was still at school, Mzwandile became an active member of the SRC at Madiba Comprehensive School in Kagiso.

“We urged people to avoid going to funerals in large numbers because this is where the virus spreads fast,” said Maxwell.

A memorial service was held for him on 21 January and he was buried in Kagiso on Saturday, 23 January.
