Alex residents outraged after woman shot dead allegedly by police
Residents of Alexandra in Johannesburg are outraged after a woman was shot dead allegedly by a police officer. Samantha Radebe was caught in a crossfire in Alex between police and a suspect on Wednesday.
Another person was critically wounded during the incident.
Police stopped a suspected hijacked car and say a suspect pulled out a gun and a shootout ensued.
Radebe died on the scene and the 29-year-old suspect was later apprehended. The mother of two had just got married in December.
Alex residents are angry at what they call police brutality and they are demanding justice.
They dispute the police statement saying the suspect was armed. The matter is now being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
