Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote wants to buy Arsenal

One of Africa’s richest billionaires could soon enter the global game after once again stating that he wants to buy Premier League side Arsenal. Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote, who is believed to be Africa’s richest man, has made no secret of his admiration for the Gunners.

The 62-year-old billionaire, who is listed at No. 136 on Forbes’ rich list, has once again underlined his plans to buy the Premier League side. It is a team that, yes, I would like to buy some day, but what I keep saying is we have $20 billion (R287 billion) worth of projects and that’s what I really want to concentrate on,” he told The David Rubenstein Show, as quoted by Football London.

“I’m trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe sometime in 2021 we can. I’m not buying Arsenal right now, I’m buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects, because I’m trying to take the company to the next level. This is not the first time Dangote has spoken about his plans for Arsenal, having already revealed in 2018 that he wants to buy the club.

“We will go after Arsenal from 2020, even if somebody buys, we will still go after it,” he said at the time. American billionaire Stan Kroenke is currently the major shareholder of Arsenal.
