Automobile Association sceptical about call to scrap fuel levy

The Automobile Association is sceptical about the possible scrapping of the fuel levy amid the soaring cost of diesel and petrol. The Democratic Alliance is calling for the General Fuel Levy to be scrapped and for de-regulation of the fuel price.

“We know there have been calls over the weekend and even before then for the fuel levy to be scrapped and our view is that the fuel price needs to be reviewed in total. There needs to be a calculation done in terms of whether all the calculations that make up the components of the fuel price are correct and are still necessary and need to be on the fuel price,” said the AA’s Layton Beard.
