Zinedine Zidane speaks on potential Cristiano Ronaldo return to Madrid

Zinedine Zidane speaks on potential Cristiano Ronaldo return to Madrid. Zidane has taken over the reins of the club from Santiago Solari, who was sacked after Los Blancos were eliminated from the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League competitions last week.

With Zinedine Zidane completing a shock return to Real Madrid, the three-time UEFA Champions League-winning coach has addressed rumours of a possible return to the LaLiga giants for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 46-year-old Frenchman completed his return to the Santiago Bernabeu dugout following a trophy-laden first stint with the club, which saw him guide the Spanish giants to nine trophies in two and a half years.

Upon his unveiling, Zidane was questioned about a possible return to the club for Los Blancos record goalscorer Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in July 2018 – a couple of months after the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner decided to quit the Santiago Bernabeu – but was coy when discussing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, instead highlighting his desire to bring the glory days back to Real.

“Ronaldo? It’s not the topic, the topic is that there are 11 games left,” he said, according to Marca. “You know what Cristiano is, the history of this club, which no one will change, he was the best, but he’s not the topic.

“It is not the moment to talk about a Ronaldo return. Let’s see what happens next year, but for now we have to focus on the pitch.”

Zidane, who is Real’s third coach of the campaign after Julen Lopetegui and Solari, is set to begin his second spell at the helm of the club when the Spanish giants take on Celta Vigo in a LaLiga encounter on Saturday.
