Countrywide rallies planned for Workers Day

Cosatu will hold its main Workers’ Day event in Port Elizabeth.

The labour federation says the move is aimed at winning back the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro from the DA.

Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini accuses the DA of maladministration in the metro.

Workers' Day

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the main event at Isaac Wolfson Stadium.

Meanwhile, the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) will hold its main event in Bloemfontein.

Saftu is calling for worker-friendly laws.

It wants further engagement on proposed changes to the Labour Relations Act.

Saftu believes the changes will limit workers’ right to strike by making it more difficult for union members to down tools.

Last week, thousands of Saftu members took to the streets to protest over the proposed laws.
