Woman arrested for stabbin boyfriend to death in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman, Precious Anegbode, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, identified simply as Damilola, to death during a violent altercation at his residence in the Ijegun area of Lagos State.
According to reports gathered by local sources, the tragic incident occurred last Friday when Anegbode visited Damilola’s home. What began as a heated argument between the couple soon escalated into a physical confrontation, culminating in a fatal stabbing.A resident of the area who spoke to reporters on Sunday on the condition of anonymity said that the argument between the pair was loud enough to draw the attention of neighbours. The noise prompted some of them to consider intervening, but before they could react, the situation had turned deadly.
“We don’t know exactly what started the fight, but we heard them arguing loudly,” the witness said. “It went on for a while, and then suddenly everything went quiet. Then we heard the girl crying and screaming. When some neighbours rushed into the room, they found the young man lying lifeless on the floor. It was a terrible scene.”Another resident confirmed that a group of neighbours quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life, while others restrained the suspect to prevent her from fleeing the scene.
“They took her boyfriend to the hospital, but the doctors confirmed he was already dead.
“They took him to the hospital, but the doctors said he was already dead when they brought him in. It was so heartbreaking. We also made sure the girl didn’t run away. After that, some of us went to the police station to report what had happened. The officers came back with us and took her into custody,” the resident added.Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police P Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police were informed of the stabbing shortly after it happened.
“The incident was reported to the Igando Division at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The victim was taken to Igando General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. Our officers responded immediately,” Hundeyin stated. He added that initial investigations revealed the altercation had occurred outside the jurisdiction of the Igando Division, prompting a referral to the Isheri Oshun Division, which had direct responsibility for the area. Nevertheless, officers from both divisions were mobilized to secure the scene and commence further inquiries.
“The suspect was initially detained at the Igando station before the case was properly reassigned,” he continued. “We have taken all necessary steps so far. The crime scene was visited and documented. The knife used in the attack was recovered, and there was visible blood evidence at the location. Photographs were taken to support the investigation.”CSP Hundeyin also confirmed that Precious Anegbode gave a confessional statement under caution and that the case would soon be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti, Yaba, for more in-depth investigation.

“The case file, the suspect, and the recovered exhibit will be transferred to the SCID for thorough and discreet investigation,” he said. The motive behind the violent outburst remains unclear at this time, and authorities are expected to conduct interviews with witnesses, neighbours, and possibly members of the victim’s family in an effort to build a clearer picture of what led to the fatal confrontation.
The incident has left residents of the Ijegun community in shock, with many expressing disbelief that such violence could erupt between a young couple in their midst. Some residents also called for more awareness around domestic conflict and emphasized the importance of early intervention in volatile relationships. As the investigation continues, Precious Anegbode remains in police custody and may face murder charges, depending on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
