Court halts Shell’s seismic survey off the Wild Coast

Multinational oil and gas company Shell has suffered a legal blow.

The Grahamstown High Court sitting in Makhanda has granted an interdict against its seismic survey along the Wild Coast.

The application was brought by activists, including Kei Mouth communities.

Applicants argued that Shell doesn’t have the required authorization to perform the survey.

They say the petroleum giant also failed to consult affected communities.

The High Court has now ordered the company to pay the applicants’ legal costs.
