COVID-19 infections soar in Western Cape towns

COVID-19 cases continue to soar in several rural towns of the Western Cape. In Papendorp, nearly half of the households of the town have been infected.

The situation is much the same in Ebenezer, following a number of super-spreader events.

The region also reported outbreaks in June, when nearly a quarter of Kliprand tested positive.

The Matzikama Municipality says it is doing all it can but it’s the people’s responsibility to avoid large gatherings.

Communities of these rural towns also have to travel to neighbouring Vredendal to seek medical attention making it difficult to get urgent care.
