Attacks on Western Cape EMS staff highest in 5 years

There has been a rise in attacks on emergency personnel in the Western Cape over the past year.

These frontline heroes have had to bear the brunt of a pandemic – and violent crime – while trying to save lives.

The Western Cape health department says between March last year and March this year, there have been 78 attacks on EMS staff — the highest number in five years.

Authorities say more work is needed to find effective solutions to keep staff safe.

This means sitting down with the SAPS, safety bodies, and communities.
