City Power disconnects Westdene building over R3 million debt

City Power has disconnected electricity to a residential building in Westdene that owes a little over R3 million.

City Power carried out a Revenue Collection Drive in the area on Friday, in its attempt to recover R52 million in electricity debt from several businesses.

City Power said while the property is a residential building, it has been cut off as it’s a block of flats being rented out, thus classifying it as a business.

The utility’s Hursthill manager Nokuthula Nxumalo:

“Level 2 means it’s a first disconnection. If they reconnect themselves we will do a level 3 – we will take out the cables and they need to reapply for a new reconnection.”

The next business on the list was Milpark Mews, a partly residential building located in Auckland Park.

Nxumalo said the property owes the city R3.5 million.
