2. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
2.1 The minimum education requirement is a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
2.2 Must have completed a recognised apprentice programme in welding.
2.3 Must hold a relevant trade certificate in welding.
2.4 Must be thoroughly conversant in principles/techniques and tools/equipment employed in metal fabrication and welding.
2.5 Must be able to read, understand and apply technical drawings.
2.6 Should be able to work independently.
2.7 Will attend training as and when required to do so.

3. ACCOUNTABILITIES
3.1 Adhere to the rules of the workshop, including workflow and housekeeping rules and procedures.
3.2 Adhere to the rules for work-related travel, including procedures for in-field maintenance work and timekeeping while working away from the primary workshop location.
3.3 Perform fabrication, repair work accurately and in a timely manner as per issued work instructions.
3.4 The employee shall be accountable for ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and standards of the Operator and within the confines of the AOC and relevant operational specifications.

3.5 Adhere to OHS rules in his/her area(s) of responsibility and accountability, including the timely reporting of safety-related hazards and incidents.

4. RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 Layout, position and secure parts and assemblies in work according to relevant specifications, using tools such as but not limited to: straight edge, combination square, caliper or ruler.
4.2 Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc or other welding equipment.
4.3 Cut work pieces using tools such as but not limited to: power saw, hand shears or chipping knife.
4.4 Remove “rough spots” from work pieces, using a portable grinder, hand file or scraper as applicable.
4.5 Weld work pieces in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
4.6 Heat, form and dress metal parts, using tools such as but not limited to: cutting torch or arc welding equipment.
4.7 Correctly operate and adjust cutting torches and welding equipment according to manufacturer instructions or industry best practices, as applicable.
4.8 Analyze technical drawings and other engineering specifications to plan and execute metal fabrication tasks/operations such as but not limited to: layout, welding and assembly.
4.9 Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align work pieces under fabrication and/or assembly.
4.10 Where procedural information is unavailable, apply knowledge of metallurgy, geometry and welding techniques as necessary to determine required equipment and welding method.
4.11 Supervise or oversee a Welding Assistant & Painter where so delegated.
4.12 Responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with Company Standards as laid out in the manuals of procedure, and Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
