We are not fetching disease: Ramaphosa on repatriation of SA citizens

President Cyril Ramaphosa assured South Africans that none of the people being repatriated are sick. Ramaphosa was at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday to send off the repatriation mission.

A plane with 15 officials from the Department of Health and members of the Defence Force departed for Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

Ramaphosa said plans are in motion to ensure proper screening and quarantine for the returning citizens. The people we are bringing back are all healthy and not sick, we need to make that clear to the entire nation. We are not fetching disease, we are bringing back healthy young people whose parents have reached out to us.


He was shown the facilities that will receive those returning. I can assure you that no disease is going to spill out of that area because they are not sick. We’re just making absolutely certain,” he said.

Government said 122 South African have chosen to be repatriated from Wuhan. They’re expected to be quarantined for 21 days when they touch down.
