Watch: Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma chases Max Hurrell – #whenpeoplezol

If you have been keeping track of the ‘When People Zol’ saga, you would know that Cogta Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, on Wednesday 13 May, asked to speak with the producer of the song ‘When People Zol’. The producer Max Hurrell came out with the smashing local hit featuring the minister and parts of her speech from a National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) meeting.

Someone made a video of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma running after Hurrell on a beach. It’s not exactly clear who the creator is but Hurrell did tag the account @jordzwoodman when he posted the video.

The creator basically put an image of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s face on someone’s body and did the same for Hurrell. One can be seen chasing the other, screaming.

The person made out to be the minister in the video can be heard shouting: “why are you running?”

Hurrell’s caption for the video was “I’m done” with two laughing emojis. At the time of publishing, the video got more than 8 000 views on Instagram alone.

MINISTER WANTS TO CHAT…MOST LIKELY ABOUT ‘WHEN PEOPLE ZOL’

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said the use of zol could be dangerous regarding the spread of COVID-19. That’s all it took for the hit to be produced.

Dlamini-Zuma said: “when people zol, they put saliva on a paper and then they share that zol,” indicating that it could be dangerous regarding the transmission and spread of the virus.

Hurrell basically took her exact words and put an unforgettable beat to it. According to reports on Monday, Hurrell’s hit was steadily climbing the Apple Music streaming charts. On 8 May 2020, it was in the top 50 of the streaming chart on Apple Music. The chart is updated throughout the day based on users’ listening preferences.

Max Hurrell

On Wednesday 13 May, by which time the song had really taken off, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma tweeted the following:

“Who is this Max Hurrell fellow? We just need to talk.”

Hurrell responded by asking the minister to follow him on Twitter so that he could DM her his details.

Twitter went wild. Some thought Hurrell’s response to the minister was epic. Some said she was probably looking for royalties after the song became a hit. South Africans are now dying to know what the minister had to say and it looks as though Hurrell is willing to let us in on the “talk”.
